Supporting our Local Schools in Barrow and Lakeland

We donated stripped out bedding plants from the Barrow contract to organisations across the Boroughs of Barrow and South Lakeland District Council. Staff from Barrow bagged them up, and our Biodiversity and Community Relationships Co-ordinator delivered them to parish councils, schools and charities. Recipients included:

  • Walney Secondary School, Barrow (see picture, attached, plants planted in their sensory garden for SEN students)
  • The Lots Askam Village Hall charity, Askam
  • Mary’s Hospice, Ulverston
  • Ford Park, Ulverston
  • John Ruskin School, Coniston
  • Heron Hill Primary School, Kendal
  • Kirkbie Kendal High School, Kendal
  • South Lakes Housing, SLDC area
  • Various community groups, Grange-over-Sands

The groups used the plants either to enhance their grounds or to sell on to raise funds for their organisations. In all, 120 bags of plants were distributed, diverting them away from being composted and appreciated by their recipients instead.
