At the end of January, we worked with our client, The Land Trust, and the Friends of Westbrook Orchard to create a new community orchard in Warrington. Previously an area of rough grassland, this green space will now provide a local resource for the community, as well as benefitting wildlife through providing a nectar source for insects and additional habitat for birds. We supplied 40 fruit trees, including pear, cherries, damsons and 5 varieties of apple. Our staff prepared the site in advance and then worked with Land Trust staff and around a dozen volunteers to plant the trees. We will continue to manage the grassland on behalf of The Land Trust in the future, and fingers crossed this will be a fruitful project for the local community.
